A Jobs well done - when your death is announced on your own device

Yesterday the death was announced of the Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

It has been said that Jobs was a revolutionary, that he was responsible for the way we see the world today.  I don’t know about that, but it is probably fair to say that many of the Apple inventions which have been overseen by him, such as the iMac, the iPod, iPhone and iPad, have in many ways revolutionised the digital market.

There were music players before the iPod, but Apple did it better.

There were touch screen phones before the iPhone, but Apple did it better.

And the iPad is being copied by companies the world over.

Regardless of your feelings on Apple, and to be fair not everyone chooses to own Apple devices, with many people in fact choosing not to in protest at what they see as monopolisation of the market, I think that we can all acknowledge that everyone who uses digital technology will have heard of Apple, and as such, will have heard of Steve Jobs.

I think it is probably fitting that for many people, they will have read the news of Jobs’ death on one of the devices which he had a hand in bringing to the world.

So I think that when you can say that your death was announced via your own device, then perhaps we should say that it was a Jobs well done.
